In celebration of four years together as a kinship, we're looking back at our history. All threads on this page have been moved out of the archives, for bumping, posting, and reminiscing. We invite you to look back with us...

Sir Shiverwood (view Shiv's request to join)
I remember just talking to people as I raised up my farming in open beta, was a lot of fun. Then at level 15 running around exploring North Downs just for the hell of it.

I remember having to loan money to Cuchir for his first horse, and threatening him until he paid it back. Everyone still made fun of him after that. He was a good sport about it.

Getting lost in Trollshaws, but who doesn't remember that!?

Anytime new content came out we always jumped right on it and would explore it together. Helping each other to root out every little detail about the area. Evendim is most note worthy in my mind. We had a lot of fun.

Saving up for the Kin house! That was quite a task, but we really pulled together as a group to get that done, and we had a TON of fun decorating it.

Carn Dum and Rift runs galore! I remember back in the days where I was totally against end game and people would have to beg me to go to CD... lol, funny how things change.

First time downing Thorog, we were all so freaking relieved.

First time beating down Thrang.....I still hate him.

Getting through book 15 of Volume one, and several people getting their white horses. Great times.

Running around in the moors with Thadeus. The others joined here and there. Always enjoyed that.

One of my fondest is staying up extremely late while running in circles in Pynti-Peldot in Forochel while endlessly talking to Valamor, Mirfain and maybe one or two others. We had a good little group.

The one that may put the biggest smile on my face is standing in the Kin house yard talking to a very pale elf who was interested in joining us. Little did I know I was talking to the man who would become more like a brother to me then anyone else I know! Valwindor, my friend, you kick some serious @$$!!!!

Hell, another one that comes before the game even was out would be finding this place. I was a forum junky and LOVED talking to each and every member. Back in the days when me and Annatar rule the forums, and were endlessly silly. That was when the insanity truly began. I think he and I have the very 1st edition Sanctuary Straight Jackets Laughing . I also remember the Pitchspork raids on turbine lead by the original Mr. Leader-man Wink . Especially the one where we threatened to take Turbines coffee away.....that was fun!

I remember the drama, but I remember even more the feeling of coming back home and seeing the Sanctuary tag under my name again. Knowing where I truly belong.

I remember a valiant and upcoming champ joining our ranks and immediately falling directly into the our ways. Then that same champ dragging his family in the shape of a hunter and an RK into our ranks. Then a hunter and a minny after that! Ras, Cy, Aegis, Phaet, Emi....those guys mean so very much to me. Don't know what Sanctuary would be without them.

I truly could go on all day, I don't have a poor thing to say about this group, EU and NAO alike, I truly love every single one of our members and as I type this I'm doing a horrible job of holding back tears. I really am gonna miss this place.

Annatar's Gift (view AG's request to join)
My earliest contact with Sanctuary came about while laying siege to Turbine HQ on the forums. At the forefront of the siege was a noble young knight named Aquilla. It wasn't long before I had a pitchspork of my own and fighting alongside Aquilla I joined many a raid upon the Turbine offices, searching for hidden lore.

Months later when talk of beta testing started I realised my chances would be improved if I was a member of a kinship. I quickly investigated what a kinship was and then began to look around for one to join. It was a weighty decision and I had no idea what to look for. Then I came across Sanctuary. It sounded interesting and the deal was sealed once I realised Aquilla's involvement in the kin.

Unfortunately I was 24 hours too late in joining and Sir Shiv had beat me to it. Oh the shame! Having to forever refer to Shiv as my senior. Razz

From that day on Sanctuary would never be the same, Shiv and I saw to that. We happily destroyed many a sensible thread with our verbal sparring and other such nonsense. We saw to it that every new recruit was thoroughly vetted for excess levels of sanity and any that failed were soon put right with judicious use of a cattle prod, cake deprivation torture techniques and the application of Monty Python humour (as laid down in the Sanctuary pledge).

It was such a shame that in the end we were denied the chance to enjoy LOTRO in game as a kin in the same manner which we had shared all the build up to launch. But needless to say we have had many fantastic moments since and we all still share our common ancestry despite the chasm that divides us in game.

As I said, since the launch of the game, as a kin we have had many great moments together. We haven't as a kin yet defeated Thorog, slain the Watcher or bested the Mistress of Dar Narbugud. But we have accomplished so much more. We have had had fun, we have made many more friends, we have had romances and break-ups, we have said fond farewells and rejoiced at reunions. We have tore up Eriador and squeezed every ounce of enjoyment we could out of it. As a kin we are I believe one of the oldest and strongest, with a great reputation that over 4 years has remained pretty much unsullied. That is our greatest achievement.

But if you want to know what are my fondest memories, then for me it has to be the events that we have arranged and sponsored in game. Not all went quite as planned, but there were some really splendid ones. My favourites are of course the ones that I was most relieved to survive in tact, the ones that I was primarily responsible for, the ones that I was and still am most proud of. Two in particular stand out, my Tavern Lore Contest and my Nen Harn Welcome Home Party.

So there you go. Thank you all for sharing the last 3 and a half years with me in such wonderful style.
